Meet Glen!
Glen lives in Leighton Buzzard’s Tudor Court sheltered housing scheme and is part of the Mindings trial to help the technology-shy be better connected to their families.
Mindings won a competition in December last year run by the East of England local Government Association and NHS Midlands and East to find innovative new products and services to reduce social isolation and help keep older people out of long-term care.
Glen, who lives at Tudor Court sheltered housing, said to the Leighton Buzzard Observer:
“It’s a nice way of keeping in touch with my family, I love seeing the photos they send me. It’s lovely in the morning to walk into my lounge and see some new pictures of my grandchildren and great grandchildren – it really cheers me up. They think it’s brilliant too!”
Councillor Carole Hegley, Executive Member for Social Care, Health and Housing, said:
“This is a really exciting opportunity for older people to get connected. We know not all people like or use new technology, but the Mindings service is a great way for people to stay in contact with their loved ones in a really simple but meaningful way. The beauty of it is, that as well as sharing lovely photos and Facebook messages, it is also a great way of sending reminders about important things like Doctors appointments.”
